“Bonjour, we are Maude & Kaela! We met in Vancouver while working as Sommeliers at Chambar restaurant – we connected over wine and became long time friends. With our French-Canadian & Italian heritage, we both have a mild obsession with food & wine (hehe) and have embraced the Apéro culture as a way of life. Our goal is to share our knowledge and experience with you to make wine accessible for all. We believe wine has a way of keeping us connected and should be approached with curiosity. Nice to meet you.”

Maude Renaud-Brisson

Born and raised in Québec, Maude has called Vancouver home for the last decade. Her love of food, travel, and people has led her to explore many different roles in the wine industry, from Sommelier at iconic restaurants such as Nightingale and Chambar, to her most recent role with Lifford Wine & Spirits importers. With an unpretentious approach to wine, she founded APÉROmode in 2019, to expand the community of wine enthusiasts by making wine accessible through education and events to share the Apéro culture in Vancouver. As a BC Hospitality Foundation and Les Dames D’Escoffier Scholarship recipient, Maude has always believed in giving back to the industry she loves and is now a board member of the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers as well as starting her educator journey at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts. An original student of the International Sommeliers Guild, the world of wine has always been about exploring for Maude, she obtained the Vinitaly Maestro certification and she is completing her studies with the WSET Diploma program. When she isn’t travelling in wine country or hosting her popular Apéro pop ups, you can find her moderating and presenting sold out seminars at various events such as Cornucopia Whistler Wine Festival. With over 10 years working in the wine industry and a great passion for wine, she recently placed top 3 in Canada in the prestigious global South Africa Sommelier Cup competition and is now an ambassador for Wines of South Africa locally.

Kaela Augustine

Kaela grew up in rural Northern BC, watching her mother express her Italian heritage through cooking and her father, a butcher, introducing her to the importance of the provenance of food from an early age. After completing the Culinary Arts program at the College of New Caledonia, she moved to Vancouver to pursue a career in hospitality. Kaela’s enthusiasm for sharing her culinary passion led her move into various roles in guest relations such as restaurant manager, event coordinator and Sommelier. Her experience at many of Vancouver’s best restaurants such as La Quercia, Blue Water Cafe and most recently Chambar Restaurant, has defined her broad expertise today. Over her career, Kaela has completed 3 qualification levels of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, as well as attending the French Wine Scholar and Italian Wine Scholar programs. Kaela’s education led her to take part in grape and olive harvests, goat farming and cheesemaking in Italy and France. Her passion for food, wine, and travel, combined with over 15 years working in hospitality led her to join the team in 2020 to expand the events program.
